Hypnotherapy and Weight Loss

The question that I hear most often is does hypnosis really work for weight loss? The truth is that there have been many studies like this one, that use hypnotherapy as a complimentary therapy to enhance existing therapy. Yet research still needs to be done on hypnotherapy as as a stand alone therapy. What is known for sure is that hypnosis does have an extremely good record for helping to change habits and therefore can help in the establishment of healthy eating patterns and the ending of poor habits. I believe that healthy weight loss is more about a lifestyle change rather than fad diets and that is where hypnotherapy comes into it's own.


Being in a state of hypnosis makes you more susceptible to change, and that’s why hypnosis for weight loss may be effective. It’s different to other methods because hypnosis addresses the cause and other contributing factors directly at the subconscious level in a person’s mind, where their memories, habits, fears, food associations, negative self-talk, and self-esteem form. No other weight loss method addresses the core issues at the root like hypnosis does and it therefore is most successful at producing long lasting change.


So who should try hypnosis for weight loss. Unfortunately, hypnosis is often used as a last ditch attempt to lose weight. Yet, the ideal candidate is, really, anyone who has trouble sticking to a healthy diet and exercise program because their negative habits get in the way. You can use it alongside other programmes or methods or as a compliment to a new exercise programme. Because hypnosis deals with subconscious mind it is an ideal way to get rid of limiting self beliefs and destructive patterns of behavior that may sabotage your attempts to become fit and healthy.


What you can expect from Hypnosis. As already stated a hypnotherapist will take into consideration more than just the fact that you want to lose weight. They will look at why you haven't lost weight in the past and what the underlying factors might be for this lack of success. They will also consider your habits and whether these need to be changed or modified. Whatever they discover you will not have a session of hypnotherapy and head home instantly weighing less it took time for you to put on the weight it will take time and some effort to lose it again. In our practice, we look at weight loss holistically and work closely with some personal trainers that we may refer you to whilst you are doing the therapy with us.
